Books I Like
My love affair with literature goes way back. I can barely remember not being able to read -- my mother told me I learned the way many children still do, by having the same things read to me over and over. I could read simple children's books by the time I was 3 or 4 years old (an early, dimly remembered favorite was a book about an indian boy named Red-Shirt), but there were certain gaps in my talents. My older siblings take great glee in reminding me that I once insisted my first name was spelled "O-R-C-P-O-R-N" -- I could not be dissuaded until the next Christmas, when it was pointed out to me that the presents under the tree were for "L-O-R-E-N" rather than my alternative. I gave in, and ceased all further attempts at spelling reform (something which the English language still needs). I did not, however, stop reading, and continue to have a 2-3 book a week habit to this day. When I can't buy books, I re-read old ones or avail myself of the local library system.
